Analog Telephone Adapters
An analog telephone adapter (ATA) is a device for hooking up older telephones, fax machines, and other devices meant to work on copper lines to a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) system instead.
Once upon a time, the hard lines that connected phones provided both signal and power to the phone at the same time. Those phones translated electrical pulses into sound, caller ID, and the impulse to ring. Internet lines don’t provide any of those signals, so a traditional phone will just sit there dead if hooked up to a computer.
Our ATA adapter handles all of that, however, meaning that a company can use all the phone equipment it has right now. It can be very frustrating to have spent a lot of money on an old style phone system that the company isn’t ready to upgrade, only to discover that everything’s shifting to data in a few years. We aim to bridge that gap.
Hosted PBX requires VoIP phones to use, while SIP trunking requires an on premises PBX. Our ATA service rounds out our suite of available services, allowing us to serve any business that uses telephones.
In essence, it lets you use whatever phone system you like while still running your phone service through your internet, saving money and stress both.
So, if you have an older phone system that you’d like to keep while still needing the capabilities of phone service through the Internet, our ATA service is the one you’re going to need.
